After Market Replacement Parts

It Makes Sense To Use After Market Replacement Parts

Replacement crash parts, often called after market replacement parts are those made by a company other than the original vendor or manufacturer. To put it in other words, these parts are the automobile industry's equal of the generic version of original branded product version. There are also diverse categories of these parts that include certified besides non-certified parts. The certification comes from an organization created and largely funded by the insurance industry, and not any governmental entity. However, it must be borne in mind that most of the aftermarket parts are non-certified.

When an automobile is taken, for the purpose of repair, to the repair shop, the damaged replacement parts used could include aftermarket parts which are sometimes also called discount replacement parts. As discussed above, original manufacturers do not make the aftermarket parts. The aftermarket replacement auto parts used could be equal, better, or worse in overall quality as compared to the original manufacturer parts.

The decision to use or not to use aftermarket parts such as oem replacement auto parts, oem replacement radiator and especially aftermarket engine parts varies state-wise. The reason being, the insurance industry is regulated at the state level. Some of the states make it possible for the insurance companies to use aftermarket parts without the consent of the consumers. While other states want the consumers to be informed that aftermarket parts were used on their vehicle. While some of the states however want consent of the consumer for the use of aftermarket parts. It must be known that only in a few states the use of aftermarket parts for the purpose of repairing a vehicle is not allowed.

As each state has a dissimilar opinion on the use of aftermarket parts, there is no real consensus still as to whether the use of aftermarket parts is useful or dangerous. For this very reason, many people think consumers must enjoy the right to decide if aftermarket parts are used to repair their own vehicles.

Many body shops do use aftermarket parts to repair damaged vehicles. However, some body shops that decide to not use aftermarket parts do so as they believe the parts don't fit nicely or are of inferior standard. In the use or the non-use of the aftermarket parts quality is the chief disagreement.

It could be said without a doubt that using aftermarket parts come with the savings benefit. Aftermarket parts are comparatively less costly vis-à-vis replacing the damaged area with an original equipment manufacturer part. In return, if the insurance company saves money, in that case the consumer will save as well. This is particularly the case for older cars as after market replacement parts are abundant for the older vehicles.
